Application of Half-life Extended Drug in Disease

For Research Use Only. Not for Clinical Use.

Over years, Creative Biolabs has established a comprehensive platform for half-life improvement and pharmaceutical properties measurement of therapeutically relevant antibodies and peptides. These well-tailored premade half-life extension and detection strategies have provided a convenient approach to realize our clients' therapeutic or diagnostic goals in novel drug research. Moreover, a large number of reputable references can be tracked, for whom we have raised excellent half-life related service for research or commercial applications.

Value proposition of Half-life Extended Drug in Disease

More than 200 approved recombinant protein therapeutics are available for application in various indications, including proteins such as clotting factors, hormones, growth factors, cytokines, enzymes, and antibodies. Just take antibodies as an example, the value of the monoclonal antibody and Fc fusion protein market has grown to nearly $60 billion until 2015 and continues to grow at one of the fastest rates in the pharmaceutical business, which based on various half-life extension methods.

Extending the plasma half-life can help extend the time between applications and thus reduce patient burden and improve quality of life, especially in cases of chronic diseases requiring lifelong treatment. This has been recognized by the pharmaceutical industry and meanwhile approximately 15% of the approved therapeutic proteins are modified for half-life extension. Moreover, many novel biotherapeutics have been developed to fuse protein drugs with functional fragments such as Fc part and albumin.

Applications of Half-life Extended Drug in Disease

Although these half-life extension technologies were commonly used for hormonal drugs delivery firstly, they are now applicable to lots of diseases after decades of development, and some of them act as orphan drugs. Nowadays, half-life extension has been regarded as a shortcut to improve potency due to its convenience, inexpensive, and widely suitable. The right picture shows some examples.

With the development of therapeutic proteins, more and more half-life extended drugs have been approved and used for various diseases. It is no doubt that half-life extended drugs have a huge potential in novel drug discovery. Please feel free to contact us for more details.
